Back To School Prayer Night-

I am always so thankful when I am able to host
A Back To School Prayer Night.
Taking the time to pray over specifics before the school year starts
Puts my heart in the right place,
At the feet of Jesus.

For those of you who could not join us
I am attaching the outline that we prayed through.

Thanksgiving: for our families, marriages, children, children’s school environment, for God’s care and provision, His direction and strength.

Our Personal Walks with Jesus: that we would always remember from whom our strength comes from and constantly be connected to the One who leads, guides and sustains. That we would carve time out with Him and be in constant communication with Him.

Our Marriages: That the Lord would be in the center (leading, guiding, strengthening, and unifying). Protection over. That we would meet each other’s needs with genuine care and concern. Thankfulness for the other’s roll. Enjoyment in.

Our Children: That our children would love God passionately, and love and care for others. That they would desire to glorify God by having good character, and be self-motivated to study and be diligent workers. That they would understand the material being taught to them.

Teachers: Wisdom to teach students according to the students’ needs and to deal with daily situations that arise. Patience. Creativity. Passion. Joy!!

Daily Logistics: Wisdom on how to manage well the homes the Lord has given us (laundry, cooking, cleaning, appointments). Balance with joy.

Extra Curricular Activities and Friends:  When to say yes to activities and when to say no (both for us and our children). That our children would link up with friends that would be encouraging and positive influences for them.

Preschoolers/Toddlers/Babies: Wisdom on how to give them our time, energy, and love. Patience with them and patience from them. Creativity for keeping them happy and busy.

Families That Couldn’t Make It: Blessing on their families. All that we desire for our families, that the Lord would do so for them as well.

Praying For the School Year

Every year at the beginning of a new school year,
I love to gather with my friends and pray.
Pray for the upcoming school year.
I need prayer.
Our school needs prayer.
And so we pray,
Over everything we can think of concerning school.

I love walking away from that time
Knowing we are covered in prayer!

Although this year it came a week after school started,
In the midst of very full schedules,
We prayed.
And it was good.

Many expressed the desire to join us
And yet were unable to for one reason or another.
And so I am posting my outline for you.
I hope that it blesses you as you bring these topics
Before our gracious and capable God.

Prayer- An Opportunity to Commune With Our Best Friend

I have been contemplating prayer of late.
Answered prayer.
Unanswered prayer.
Why some prayers are answered quickly.
Why some prayers are answered slowly.

Fortunately for me, the Lord knows my thoughts.
Situations, messages from my pastor,
His still, small voice...
Have given me the answer my soul could receive,
An understanding I can cling to when the evidence that He hears feels distant.

A few months ago I began feeling frustrated.
I had a little, well, situation that I longed to see a breakthrough in.
I was trying to handle it on my own.
What did I need to do differently?
How did I need to handle this situation?
How was I to react? respond?

I tried.
No breakthrough.
And then I heard.
This was something to bring before the Lord.
Not generally, specifically.
Not once, but over and over and over again.

But why?
Can't the Lord see my heart, hear my cry,
And answer my petition?
Oh yes, yes He can.
Then why am I not seeing the breakthrough?

Because He loves me,
And He knows me all too well.
He knows that would I cast my cares quickly at His feet
And dart to the next task at hand,
Our conversation would be done.
My need for Him would have been filled,
well, at least until the next, 'situation.'

Again, He loves me.
That means, He wants to commune with me.
He wants to hear from me,
Again, and again.
And as I come to Him
Again and again
I get to know Him
And trust Him
And realize that He is what my soul longs for.

As I write this, I glance up and what do I see?
One of my all-time favorite quotes edged in the
Pretty flower frame it sits in.

His great desire

and delight is God;

and by desiring and delighting,

he hath Him.

Delight thou in the Lord,

and He shall give thee thy heart's desire,

-HIMSELF;

and then surely thou shalt have all.

Any other thing

commit it to Him,

 and He shall bring it to pass.

He delays that I might return to Him.

And, as I do, I find that He is my delight.

The Day Is His

Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established. Proverbs 16:3


I just finished some time in this Proverb
And considering what it means to 'commit thy works...'
As I try to simplify these amazing truths
To teach my boys, I'm often reminded of how much I need to hear them.

Here are a few thoughts-

When we give the Lord our day, we are allowing Him to be in control of what happens. On any given day we know some of the things we will need to do but some things we will have to discover. Commit all, the known and unknown to Him. This makes Him Lord our day and we are the servants who simply want to obey and follow His plan. This also keeps disappointment from seeping in over how the day unfolds because we can remember that the day is His and He is allowing all things to happen for our good. 

Enjoy Him today, whatever He brings your way.

Prayer Night

Marriage- Our role as wives

Last night was a wonderful time of prayer as my friends and I gathered in our home and we prayed over our role as wives.  For those of you who were unable to attend, here is the outline we prayed through.

Thank God for our husbands.

Pray that we would truly respect them as men, as the leaders of our homes, as the father of our children, as the provider for our families.

Pray that we would love them in a way that they feel loved.

Pray that we would be their number one encourager, the one who believes in them the most, flatters them the most, cheers them on the most.

Pray for creativity on your part in your marriage.  That the Lord would reveal new and exciting things to add to your relationship to the unification, joy and pleasure of your marriage.

Pray for wisdom on when to speak, confront, discuss issues, and when to hold our tongues and speak only to the Father.

Pray that we would find our complete satisfaction, completion, acceptance from the Lord so that anything our husbands may give us will be received as an extra gift.

Pray that we will be quick to forgive and not let our minds dwell on the sins done against us.  But that with the help of the Holy Spirit we will seek peace and redemption in our marriage so that we can experience the joy that He desires us to share.

Pray for hearts that want to serve selflessly rather than seeking to be served.

Pray that we would be the wife our husband is anxious to get home to, boasts to his friends about, wants to grow old with.

Pray for our relationships with others, that we would safeguard our marriage and therefore only have relationships male or female that strengthen our relationship with our husband.

I'm Thankful!

I have so much to be thankful for!

I want to (hopefully weekly) share these things with you.

I'm thankful for...

... my Grandma!

This past week, my Grandma left her earthly home

to meet her King in her heavenly home.

What a joyous time it must have been for her,

to see her Jesus face to face

and to be reunited with her beloved husband.

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.

Psalm 116:15

I am truly blessed to have been placed in a family

rich in Godly heritage.

My Grandma loved Jesus

and it shone through in all that she did.

These are some my personal memories that I am thankful for:

... making masa for pasteles.

When it was time to make pasteles, the women in the family

would gather around the kitchen table with graders and

bunches of green bananas.

Grandma would take the masa and create her amazing pasteles

along with her famous Spanish rice.

When informing my sons that Grandma went to heaven,

I was so pleased to hear my oldest son say,

"Wasn't she the one who made the good Spanish rice?!"

... foot massages.

My family had the opportunity to live with my Grandparents

for a season.

During this time, in my elementary years,

my Grandma and I would turn on a movie, sit on the couch,

and take turns giving each other foot massages.

She gave the best. massages. ever!

... watching her bring her two plastic containers

(0ne with curlers, one with clips).

to the coffee table to set her hair before bed.

... singing, singing, singing.

My grandma loved to sing and could often be found with

the newest baby of the family in her arms,

singing and bouncing the little one to the beat.

She also taught my son the song:

"I'm gonna run, run, run to see my Jesus."

... praying, praying, praying.

My grandparents could pray.

When you asked for prayer, you could count on your

request coming to the thrown of grace

through the fervent prayers of my grandparents.

Having a Pentecostal background, they knew how to pray!

Often in group prayers,

I had a hard time following who was leading the prayer,

as both she and my grandpa would be praying, right along. =)

They were talking to their King,

unashamedly, passionately!

Thank you, Jesus, for Grandma! Thank you for the life she lived for You.

Thank you for the opportunities You allowed me to share with her,

times that pointed to Your goodness and grace.

Thank You that she loved You and that love reached many people

to Your praise and glory.

I am one that benefitted from her heart devoted to You!

Thank You that You allowed her to be my Grandma.

I am thankful that You hold her safely, until we meet again.

Prayer Night

Last Tuesday night was suppose to be my monthly prayer night.

I say 'suppose to be' because instead it was the day

Our unwanted visitor arrived.

Somehow the stomach flu has taken up residency at our house for a week now.

Oh lucky us!

Even though we were unable to share in this time together,

I still wanted to post my outline because of course,

We can all still pray whether together or alone.

Prayer Night: February 28, 2012

Relationships-

With our God- pray for your number one relationship, your relationship with the Lord.

With our husband- if you have one, this is our first human priority in relationships. Pray for friendship, communication, unity, reconciliation, creativity.

With our children- that we would have mutual respect for one another and good, open communication.

With our friends- thank God for the friends he has allowed in our lives and pray that the relationships we have with them would be an encouragement to them and ourselves.

With our parents- that the Lord would create a healthy relationship with them that is a blessing.

With our in-laws- again that the Lord would create something beautiful and a blessing rather than the curse the world jokes about. =)

With our employers/co-workers- for those in this situation, may the Lord use these relationships to bring blessings and peace.

Pray that we would glorify God in all of our relationships, that we would bring joy and peace into relationships.

Prayer Night

for those who could not join us for 'prayer night', I wanted to post my outline so that you could pray as we were able to. I took the gals through a method I love to use when praying and yet don't do as often as I'd like. Praying through the Tabernacle is just one method of prayer but one that covers all areas. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the Tabernacle, it was God's dwelling place in the Old Testament before the temple was built. It was a visible representation of His presence with HIs people. As we move through the tabernacle, we stop at each station to pray in specific ways.

Thanksgiving: The Gate. Psalm 100:4

Praise: Courtyard. Praise the Lord for who He is and for what He has done. Psalm 135:2-3

Confession: The Brazen Alter of sacrifice. Psalm 32:5

Sanctification: . The Brazen Laver. Wash with the water of the Word. John 17:17

Ministry: The Golden Candlesticks. Pray for ministries you are aware of. Revelation 1:20

Personal Petition: The Table of Shewbread, a picture of Jesus, the Bread of Life. Pray for your personal needs. Matthew 6:11

Intercession: Alter of Incense. Pray for the needs of others. 1 Timothy 2:1

Worship and Fellowship: The Holy of Holies. Psalm 95:6

I Can Talk, But Will I Listen?

I have no problem talking.

I can talk to my husband.

I can talk to my kids.

I can talk to my friends.

And I can talk to my Lord.

But, it dawned on me recently,

As it does every so often,

That I need to listen, especially to the Lord.

I cast my cares upon Him.

I bring my requests to His thrown.

I share my deepest hurts and longings.

And then, often times,

I put away my Bible and enter into my busy day.

I didn't wait for His reply.

I didn't sit long enough to see if He had something for me.

A conversation goes two ways.

I am being reminded to not only talk to my God

But to also wait and listen to Him.

May I go through this day eager to hear from Jesus.

I'm sure He has something special for me.

Will I stop talking and listen?

I'm praying that I will.

I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined unto me, and heard my cry. Psalm 40:1

Be still, and know that I am God... Psalm 46:10

I need to be patient. I need to be still.

When Can I Pray?

"Pray without ceasing."

1 Thessalonians 5:17

Pray constantly.

Pray without stopping.

Pray all the time.

This is what I want to do.

This is what I have told my children they can do.

This is kinda what I do... with some things. =)

It dawned on me recently that I can come before the Lord

Quite easily throughout the day for wisdom and strength

With the little things that come my way.

But when it comes to the BIG things

(relational issues, disunity, personal struggles)

I somehow think I need a block of time, with my journal,

To pour out my heart before the Lord.

Frankly, the time for this type of intercession

Just doesn't find a way into my schedule too often.

And this lack of prayer time has frustrated me.

I want to seek Him.

I want to lay my burdens at His feet and hear His voice on matters.

And then the light went on.

I can.

I can pray about the BIG things as I do the little things-

Constantly, all the time, throughout my day.

I can pray about the BIG things in the shower.

I can pray about the BIG things while I fold laundry.

Whenever I prayed for the little things, I could pray for the BIG things too.

Sounds simple, I know, but this is something I'm going to work on.

I'm a type A, scheduled kinda person.

This is beneficial in many areas, but can be limiting in others.

I was putting my idea of prayer in a box.

I am going to work on this-

Not having to pray as I would love to

(Bible open, notebook ready),

But heart open, words ready to share with my Father

Who always hears.

May I put into practice the song I sing with my children:

Rejoice evermore,

Pray without ceasing, and

In everything give thanks,

For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Prayer Night

Once a month I have the privilege of opening my home for a time of prayer. I look forward to these evenings, where I can spend an hour with friends, covering a topic in prayer. Last night our topic was on thanksgiving. Here is the outline I used as we thanked God for His many blessings toward us.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving… For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods… O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker. Psalm 95:2,3,&5

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. Psalm 100:4-5

-Thank God for who He is to you: He is merciful and gracious to us, He is our provider, our comforter, our shelter…

-Thank God for our husbands in their role as husbands to us.

-Thank God of our husbands in their role as father to our children.

-Thank God for our children: how He has made them, what they are teaching us.

-Thank God for your job and/or your husband’s job and his willingness to work.

-Thank God for our churches, our pastors: that God has provided us with places to worship Him and to know Him through the teaching of His Word.

-Thank God for the wonderful country He has allowed us to be apart of. Praise Him for the freedom we have.

-Thank God for the trials He allows to strengthen and develop us.

-Thank God for your home: big or small, complete or lacking.

-Thank God for the vehicle that you drive.

-Thank God for your extended family.

-Thank God for the people with whom you will share Thanksgiving.
