Joy- this is where I struggle.
Reflecting joy in my home,
To my boys,
In my schedule.
I'm an organizer.
A list maker-
Who delights in checking off my list.
But my schedule, lists, and tasks at hand
Become all consuming
Turning me into a drill sergeant
In order to complete the list.
I'm aware of the time.
Daily needs and duties do not go unnoticed.
So I plan and prepare and then,
Execute.
This unfortunately usually looks like
Barking out orders for all to be productive
And on task.
Do chores need to be done?
Yes.
Do lessons need to be done?
Yes.
Do errands need to be run?
Yes.
Phone calls made, emails sent?
Yes. Yes.
Don't get me wrong-
I like to work.
I enjoy the tasks that need to be done.
(for the most part =))
But I need to do them with joy.
So Father, help me to do it all with JOY!
May the JOY of the LORD be my strength.
(Nehemiah 8:10)
May my children float through their tasks
On their mother's song (not commanding bark- yikes!)
Lord, may I slow down to enjoy all the blessings as
We go about the schedule.
May I be led not by my list but by Your Holy Spirit.
There are things to be done, of course, but Father,
But may it be done with JOY and for Your glory!
Because of Jesus,
This reminds me of the story of Gideon that Jon C. talked about yesterday evening. Your kids are going to be like you. Just as Gideon was fearful, his boy was fearful. It's amazing how putting on a smile and being joyful can change the entire atmosphere of the home. Surely we ladies will all be joyful this evening... :)
